QSE Intermediate Student's Book

The Student's Book contains 18 short Units (plus 3 Extended Reading sections) providing lots of variety for students with different interests. All Units follow a similar, clear and simple 10-step format, so that learning how to use the material is a quick and easy task that does not have to be repeated.

An introductory Unit (Unit 0) is available free to download from this website.

    FACT box - amazing facts supporting the Topic.
  2. FOCUS ON… words - Pre-teaching new VOCABULARY; lexical development is a key feature.
    FOCUS ON … ideas - personalised and intercultural
    Speaking activities prepare for READING.
    FOCUS ON … Language - introduces new GRAMMAR items inductively, with cross-reference to explanations and exercises in the Workbook.
  3. Reading. Many different types of authentic and interesting READING texts, all available as recordings on CD 2 for those who like to listen and read simultaneously. Pre-reading activities and comprehension questions and activities.
  4. Talk about it. Innovative SPEAKING activities designed to activate key functional language, by using the Language Banks that are on the fold-out covers of the Student's Book. They also appear with exercises in the Workbook.
  5. Listen in - Audio CD LISTENING inputs with both pre-listening and listening comprehension exercises.
  6. Controversy - wide variety of SPEAKING and discussion activities based on the Role Cards that appear in the Workbook.
  7. Portfolio writing - Large variety of guided WRITING tasks, with more in the Workbook.
  8. CLIL - integrated cross-curricular study with short reading passage and supporting vocabulary and comprehension activities.
  9. Conversation, Interactive Task, Your Topic - using the format of the Trinity SPEAKING exam in pairs, by making a presentation and by leading a discussion.
  10. Your answer - using the Big question to reflect on what students have learnt in the Unit.
